FPGA replacment for the ZX8301 ULA and more
Re: FPGA replacment for the ZX8301 ULA and more
There is a version that is just a ULA replacement using cpld but it doesn't work well with Gold Card and Super Gold Card.
It works with all the QL's and the cards people have tried but not with those 2 cards, I'll try to fix this.
With SGC it works but with almost random noise on the screen. With GC it doesn't boot at all.

Nice,
I don't have any of those, and I won't have it. So that is great to fit my developed board that I am building on.
Great job!

Re: FPGA replacment for the ZX8301 ULA and more
Hi,
I have the 8301 ULA replacement board fitted to a QL with Tetroid TDI, QIMSI, QL-SD.
The Tetroid TDI CF card is disabled to allow the QIMSI to work with the Tetroid TDI ram, to give full 896K and Floppy disk access, to Gotek Flash Floppy.
The QL-SD has had its firmware updated so thd QIMSI can use the QL-SD reader, as detailed in message: viewtopic.php?t=4540
All works great.

I think I fixed the problem with the cpld ula and Gold and Super Gold Card.
In my QL they both work now. No artifacts and both boot.

Curiosity has got the better of me so please excuse naivety. Re using expansion bus:
For issue 6 the HAL deals with PCEN (pcen = a16 * /a17 * /a6 * dsmc)
On issue 5 and earlier, wouldn't it be possible to drop in simple decode board for PCEN and TXOE (ZX8302).

Yes with another cable/board or something but not just the expansion port
I could try it but it will become an even more ever-changing project lol
I don't care to sell, for me it works perfect.
If someone wants to try it I will build one for him and help him.
If someone don't like it I won't. lol

Re: FPGA replacment for the ZX8301 ULA and more
Thank you
I have to admit that there is a problem with those red tall cpu sockets on the QL boards and at least I have to find longer pins than those I'm using for the ula socket.
If I see that this doesn't work well, I'll reconsider the expansion port but new pcb from the begining and new tests ... :

the matter is that you could use straight pins... but, it has some considerations that probably you know...
1. You can make them longer from the side you want, and shorter from the other side. It is a technique that I use sometimes.
2. They use to be too hard and force some sockets making them loose. Thus other ICs could not make a proper contact later.
3. Cannot be used with round pin sockets.
Do you know what I mean?
So, perhaps you can use them to solve your problem if it is about some milliliters.
