So I bought some QL scrap

I got this bundle of bits on ebay for a price that was too tempting not too. Both are listed as broken with the complete one sold as "WHEN PLUGGED INTO THE TV IT JUST COMES UP WITH A PINK RECTANGLE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN WHICH IT HAS A FURTHER FAULT" I havn't tried it plugged in yet but I noticed one ROM is a JS and the other is a JM. I didn't think you could mix them? On the other one the PSU socket has come loose.

I didn't realise how filty they were too, probably not a good idea to photo them on my bed. Erk!

That's not scrap by any means.

I see a lot of good components and donor parts there that can keep other QLs going...

I doubt that using one JM ROM chip and one JS ROM chip in the same QL would work, so that would be the first thing to sort out.

A good clean of the microdrive units may provide some working units if nothing else.

Nice Ebay find there!

Are you planning to create more custom colour QLs?
Your white one is awesome!

Can't resist the temptation to say "So that's your idea of a 'dirty weekend' in the vanpeebles household"

Well the cases are all cleaned and I'm about to have a go at trying to get a working one sorted. I'll swop the roms first. Is the tv modulator needed on a QL? I know with the spectrum +3 it's a popular mod to remove them as they generate a lot of noise onto the main board.

I would remove it if not too fiddly, however I have seen the mod that links the composite into the modulator straight out to the phono socket allowing connection to a monitor/tv with composite video in.

I think the supply to the circuit was cut also so power was reduced and noise not generated as you say.

BTW what did you clean the QL with?

I need to do this to a couple of mine for piccy taking as too many marks, dirt and dust show up too much.

Hey my 200th post :D

How many 200'ers are there? :?:
