What AIs think about the QL
Just thought to ask ChatGPT about the QL. ChatGPT is an amazing piece of technology, but the answers also point out its flaws. First about the QL in general, not too bad:
But then it can't differentiate between the QL's QDOS and the MS-DOS precursor:
Finally I want to congratulate Wolfgang, our future AI overlords think he wrote SMSQ/E. Also, I didn't know it was pronounces "sam-squee" The rest checks out well enough.

Re: What AIs think about the QL
Interesting. I wonder what data they used to train it. One of my online DBA "colleagues" asked it a few questions about various Oracle myths. It responded with a complete pile of nonsense which appears to have been copy and pasted from Don Burleson's well known web site, where almost everything he writes is wrong and has been debunked.
On a similar note, my P20 phone's camera has AI. It's pretty good except it identifies my dog as a cat.
Cheers,
Norm.

Why do they put lightning conductors on churches?

Wonder if the dog or the cat would take most offence?NormanDunbar wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 8:48 am On a similar note, my P20 phone's camera has AI. It's pretty good except it identifies my dog as a cat.

Similarly, at a recent craft fair I was taking pictures of various craft items for their website. Some of them were a little less than amused that things like jewellery and baby knitwear got identified as 'food'.
AIs are only as good as the source data of course.
Wonder how it worked out the pronunciation of SMSQ/E?

I think we'd have to start to be very concerned once everything an AI spits out is more correct than our own babbling

Re: What AIs think about the QL
SMSQ/E stands for Single user Mutltitasking System for QL / Extended (as in extended environment).
As it's an abbreviation, it's not pronounced as a single word, rather just as the 5 abbreviation letters S M S Q E (the slash symbol, or sometimes a dash, is not pronounced).
Tony Tebby was British, so would probably have pronounced it as the letters are pronounced in English. Although I'm sure nobody would mind if the letters are pronounced as they sound in French, German etc.
There might be a case for pronouncing them in French, as Tony went to live in France, and the SMSQ/E Registrar (Wolfgang) lives in France!
(Welsh doesn't even have a letter Q so I won't even go there... )

I've been wondering for years for someone to point out that Welsh people shouldn't use a QL because our language has no Q...
