Rs232 serial mouse for QL

Post by genetika »

Hi.
Is it good for sermouse driver ?
It works well with superHermes mouse interface.

I prepared a Sermouse RS232 cable, but this mouse doesn't start
with Sermouse driver (2button or 3button version)
.
(I checked the configuration of both drivers with CONFIG ).

Is it necessary a special mouse for SERMOUSE drivers?

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Massimino

I have some mice that did not worked with Sermouse 3.04 - but they happily work with Sermouse 3.03 (QL +Hermes)

I order to use a mouse, with the sermouse driver, is the Hermes chip mandatory?

No, but it really helps .
Without Hermes both serial ports work only at the same speed - and speed is limited to about 1200bps

Hi genetika,

I have an old serial mouse and it works correctly with SerMouse (v. 1.02) and JS ROM (Minerva or Hermes is not necessary). But my old mouse has two modes, PC mode and MS mode (activated with a switch on the bottom). With MS mode it doesn't work, with PC mode it works fine. I think that all usual serial mouse for standar PC-Windows are "MS mode" and it not work with SerMouse.

My mouse is this:

The "MS" mode, is "Mouse Systems", which uses a different protocol and supports three rather than two buttons. The driver which came with it would allow the PC to run it in either mode.

Most PC mice used the original protocol but some added to it to allow scroll wheels etc.

Hi,

I have a few serial switchable mouses or is it mice...

Including the featured Commodore.

If anyone wants one for the cost of postage send me a PM.

Some versions of the SERmouse software came with configurable 2 or 3 buutton options. Others came as separate 2 and 3 button drivers. Additionally, some 3 button mice would require that one of the buttons was held down at power-up to switch to 2 button mode, and I came across many3 button mice which would only work with the 2-button driver mode.

SERmouse, for those not familiar with it, has configurable options to intitialise the mouse baudrate on initialisation, plus for those QLs without split baud rate facilities for the two serial ports, an option to suspend the mouse driver temporarily if the baud rate was changed or the other serial port was open. Mice geberally work at something like 1200 baud, whereas printers and communications connections will generally work with different baud rates.

In short, a bewildering number of options in software alone, never mind the mouse type!

And as Andrew has found out to his cost, some mice will only work with some versions of the SERmouse software, just to make life even harder (I think Andrew had been trying to get SERmouse 3.04 to work, but ended up using 3.03 for his mouse).
