Hello (finally) from Wiltshire

Post by xpdualcore »

With Robs help (and turning off my VPN!) I'm finally here!!

I've inherited most of my late fathers computer bits and a Sinclair QL in particular.

ATM its still at my mums but am working on getting it down here shortly so I can't tell what revision or even more importantly if it still works! More details will follow...

I can remember as a teen playing an adventure game he bought at a computer show in London but that was ages ago. It was our first computer... I used Commodore PETs and mainframes (with card readers and teleprinters) at Tech College so it was his pride and joy!

So I guess for now I'll just mouch about and try to learn as much as I can!!

Thanks for having me here..

Peter

A warm welcome! What did you do on the adventure game? Can you remember which one?

Hi Peter,

I used to work with ICL mainframes, card punches and teleprinters. George 2 on the 1966 and then, shock horror, interactivity with VME on the 2966/3925/3945s.

Cheers,
Norm.

Once or twice, yes. We had a water coolant leak on the 2945 one morning. That went well!

Hello fellow moonraker (obviously I'm an import, not even being born in the UK). Which end of the county are you? I'm almost on the far western edge, almost literally a stone's throw from BANES.

I'm from way up North, Elgin in the county of Moray. I worked in Aberdeen on mainframes, then moved South to Yorkshire to work with databases.

Cheers,
Norm.

I kind of figued you might be a Scot, Norman. Can't think why, just a hunch :D

Moonraker is a term for a Wiltshire person.
