It's not ideal but never had any problems with it
It was done initially to allow easy access to an external 3x64K EPROM board (with internal slot TRL disk/memory interface).
Having used a Miracle Hard disk for years beforehand - which uses a 6 inch ribbon cable off the ROM port! - and never had any trouble with that arrangement, I guessed it wasn't any worse...
I did consider a ground screen by lacing some conductive fabric around the wires (like in laptop LCD wiring looms) if I had any problems. But used with Gold card + MHD faultlessly since 1995.
