SuperBasic for the PC

Post by rogerh »

After considering things for a bit I realized my interest in the QL is not in the hardware but rather in the software.

I'm a programmer (retired) and what I'd really like to have is a SuperBasic compiler for the PC.

Is there such a thing? Something like the emulators use without the QL output simulation?

Looking around, QPC3 look something like what I want but the price for it is absurd considering you can get Linux and thousands of applications for free.

I presume you mean QPC2....

There are some very good QL emulators for the PC - other than QPC2, in my opinion the best one is Q-emuLator - http://terdina.net/ql/q-emulator.html

You can also try the new java SMSQ/e emulator (SMSQmulator) - it is based on the SMSQ/e operating system rather than standard QDOS - http://www.wlenerz.com/SMSQmulator/

Yes, I've seen all those but they all have the QL screen emulation.

What I'd like is a superbasic compiler for Win XP so I could write programs that would run on XP or QL or wherever.

At the moment, nothing like this exists - perhaps a good start would be to look at I was modifying one of these BBC Basic Open Source compilers out there to be closer to S*Basic's syntax (thanks for the suggestion Phoebus - via Facebook!) - mind you, I can't find one of these...

Hi!

If you're only looking for a similar environment (i.e. not an exact copy of SuperBASIC), it might be worth looking into SpecBAS, an evolved reMake of 1980 Spectrum Basic for various modern platforms. It's not exactly SuperBASIC, but "feels like it" (Or, rather, like a "Spectrum on steroids")

Hi Tobias;

Yes, that looks like something I can use, if I can only figure out HOW to use it!

Thanks

Roger
