Thanks Derek and Norm.

When I'm ready for the next stage I'll use NFS_USE.

Basically all I'm doing is taking all the files off my Tetroid 8GB CF card, putting them on the QXLII for safe keeping before eventually putting them all back onto a much smaller (128MB) CF card so that in the future I can do quick and easy 'backups' (or rather, images) of the whole thing using DriveImage - which normally takes many hours for 8GB and just a few mins for 128MB. So if anything goes wrong in the future with the CF card I can just pop the latest backed up image onto another 128MB card.

I couldn't get on at all with extracting files from a DriveImage image to windows and then putting them onto another different sized CF card. And I'm lucky enough to have a working QXLII setup so decided to do it that way.

Ask me about felt pads - I can cut them to size and they have proved excellent for mdv data recovery.

Hi,

I was reading another web site... Quantum Technology, the makers of Black Phoenix.

There some excellent QL related ingormation, in the tutorial section, a backup programme called Backup 1.7 is described, maybe worth a look:

That's Wolfgang Lenerz's Backup program mentioned by Per above.

I will get back to backing up stuff. I was put off/delayed when the ZX8301 decided to fail in my BBQL. It has a 'new' one fitted now and all is well, but now I'm a bit nervous about using the small LCD display that I set up near to the QXLII so that I could network them. I may even use the Q68 as the temporary medium to hold all the data (but need to add the network hardware/software first).

I also had some trouble with a CF card that had bad sectors.

And Drive Image seems to only let you copy whole HDD images to another card if they are the same size and also have the same number of CHS? Anyone have any experience with that? I was experimenting with a 128mb card which just has the basic TDI file structure and was unable to put an image of it onto another 128mb card from a different manufacturer and with different CHS - but that may have been because the destination card had bad sectors.
