Hi Giorgio,

I have downloaded Black Phoenix v1.5 and run it on a Q68, the startup animation works well in Mode 4.

I have changed the Q68 desktop screen from Mode 4 to DISP_MODE 6 (512x384 Mode 33 - fastest Hi Colour mode) with Qustomizer.

I must I am impressed by the programming of Black Phoenix.

I intend to put Black Phornix on the Q68 SD Card for new owners.

Hi,

The supplied Q68 SD Card, is setup to boot from a QWA Container called QLWA.WIN, the SMSQ/E file is Q68_SMSQ.WIN. To change the SMSQ/E defaults, type LRUN "WIN8_BOOT". This will boot into MENCONFIG.

I tried to show how to change boot QWA containers with the WIN_DRIVE command in the WIN1_BOOT file.

Briefly what you need to do to make bootable SD Card is:

Delete all partitions on the SD Card making sure no partitions exist.
Create a FAT32 partition on an SD Card from Windows, Linux, MacOSX etc...
Copy the BP15,WIN file to the FAT32 partition
COPY Q68_SMSQ.WIN to FAT32 partition
Insert SD Card into Q68 Slot 1
Power ON
Q68 will recognise boot up with ROM Loader displaying: Ram Test, Date, PS/2 Mouse recognition
SMSQ/E will boot from Partition: Q68_SMSQ.WIN
SMSQ/E now in DISP_MODE 1 (512x256 MODE 4)
Type:

WIN_DRIVE 1,1,"BP15.WIN"
LRUN "WIN1_BOOT"

Once Black Phoenix is loaded, use Qustomizer to chnage Q68 Display settings to DISP_MODE 6 (512x384 Mode 33), this being the fastest Hi Colour mode.

To automatically boot into Black Phoenix:

either:

Rename the BP15.WIN file to QLWA.WIN before copying to SD Card
reboot

OR

CHANGE CONFIG BLOCKS
--------------------------------------
SMSQ/E needs to be configured to boot from Black Phoenix QWA Container

Type:
LRUN WIN8_BOOT

This will load Menuconfig

Select WIN drive settings
Alter:

File for WIN1 => BP15.WIN

Save Config settings
Reboot

You should have booted into Black Phoenix.

I will a better guide in due course.

Hi,

Other alternatives are:

Supply pre-configured SD-Card with SMSQ/E and Black Phoenix installed.

Have a downloadable SD Card Image of the SMSQ/E and Black Phoenix installed.

I tried BP1.5 on Linux under Wine. Looks amazing!
However, there were quite a few errors popping up to say that "ALPHA_BLEND" isn't a known procedure. Where is/should it be loading from?

Cheers,
Norm.

Which version of QPC are you running under Wine/Linux?

According to the QPC/SMSQ Release Notes, ALPHA_BLEND was introduced in SMSQ/E 3.26, itself linked in to QPC 4.04.

Hi Giorgio,

when BP1.5 booted, I got the "stones" background, and then while setting up the top "menu" bar with icons, calendar etc, there were 4 red screens opened on the lower left. They looked like Qliberator error screens. All had errors about ALPHA_BLEND not being a valid name. One of them was from the calendar application.

I've attached the screen shot. Immediately after boot.

Cheers,
Norm.
