Just a short note that I repacked all distributions yesterday to include the latest documentation.

Hi QLers,

as the final of a bombastic 2 months firework which brought us new releases of QPC2, SMSQmulator, SMSQ/E, QemuLator and sQLux, here's the Distribution which include all free ones!

QL/E v3.21 (Codename "Circle of Life", 2021 edition) is out now!

Details about it, Download & More as usual on the sinclairql.net website, link see message footer.

I wish you all a healthy, prosperous and Happy New Year 2022!

Cheers,
Urs

Hi Urs,

Just downloaded uour update to QL/E, looks really nice.

Do youknow how many users use QL/E?

Personally, I write my own boot files and do not use distributions such as QL/E, Black Phoenix.

That said, I download and have the most upto date software.

Thank you! :D

Well, it's me and maybe Simon. ;)
Seriously, I just don't know.
But I know the download figures. Take the previous version 3.20. This had a "successful download" count of 298 in 365 days.

I fully understand that QL pros like you do it that way.

But think of all those folks who even fail to unzip executables or setup a proper WIN file or avoid file and loading duplicates, to just name a few topics covered by QL/E.

QL/E's boot file is a good example of how to write a flexible and even configurable boot program in a monolithic approach. Especially those new to the QL or not experienced could learn a lot out of it. To study and learn, I propose to have a look at the verbose (documented) file called boot_verbose.

1 month has passed since the release of version 3.21. I had a quick look at the web server. Current download count of the new version is 46.

What else? Feedback as usual (1 in this thread, 2 on ql-users, a few emails, nothing really substantial). So far, promotion of the new version was on a very low scale, just the posts here, the post on ql-users https://www.mail-archive.com/ql-users@l ... llist.html and on the Community tab (blog) of the YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/QLvsJAGUAR/community.

An Italian user posted a question with a QL/E screenshot to Facebook recently and got a bit of interest there. The Facebook group is a completely different crowd than here or the mailing list, many people with only passing interest or curiosity (1100 members!). So basically people that would be best served with a ready-made distribution... ;)

Thanks to multiple circumstances & triggers and just because I felt for, I used the time communting to and from the office with the train today to do some QLing and fix a bug in the ConFiGurator program (WIN1_DO_CFG) of QL/E v3.22 which I discovered on February 3rd and in the same run, finalised the TDI edition of QL/E v3.22. Bugfix has been tested using QPC2, fingers crossed that it also works on other systems such as TDI, QL-SD or Q68.

Speaking of QL/E v3.22, this came out on 30.12.2022. For whatever reasons, the release was not announced here. Here we go.

What's new in QL/E v3.22 then?
Motto: Paradise! Enough, free, good, healthy!
Updated in 2022, highlights:
x Added EasyPTR4, ProWesS, Launchpad2
x Updated Q2S, RAM disk, TURBO,
Magnetic Scrolls interpreter
x Improved boot process with support for
Q-emuLator-Q60-SMSQ_QEM, ST-TT-SMSQE

Hi Urs,

I had downloaddd QL/E prior to your bug fix in DO_CFG. I updated my QL/E v3.22 with the corrected DO_CFG. All seems to be working.

On the Q68, I use DISP_MODE 6 (512x384 Mode 33) for the full speed and speed reductions as in DISP_MODE 3, 5, 7

The QDT icons are setup with the assumption that the desktop is 1024 x 512, I had move the icons around to suit the screen area.

Can SYSMON loaded to the Button Frame?

I am happy about that!

The boot program should take care of changed resolutions and auto-adjust the positioning of the QDT icons using the program QLEhelper. I'll upload two pictures (give me a minute). Can you please check again.

Code: Select all

18030 IF FOP_IN(#9,QLE_hostdev$&"6_!My_QLEmaster_inf")=0:CLOSE#9:ELSE PRINT#0," helper";:EW QLEhelper;"\QDT"
Derek_Stewart wrote: Sat Apr 29, 2023 3:55 pm Can SYSMON loaded to the Button Frame?
Currently Sysmon is configured to be positioned by Pointer. The boot program tries to calculate an "ideal" position, but after checking, yes, this can be improved. I've put it on the to-do list for v3.23.

Thank you Derek for checking and feedback.
