MEDIC disc interface

Post by KINGCHEF »

Hi,
It seems difficult to get any info on my interface.

It has 2 ribbon connectors, one on the left is for the drives but what is the smaller one for?

Thanks

I think the other one is a Centronics interface (parallel printer port)

It also seems to have 512k of expansion RAM

Yep, definitly a Centronics printer interface.

Note there are nice hand-drawn schematics for the Medic here: http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/docs/hardware/index.html (scroll down to "Medic Board Circuit Diagrams")

I had one of those. The 512k, dual floppy version, with Centronics. (There were
other models too.) I think TK2 was built in, or perhaps only a cut down version.
I thought it great value - the best - at the time. Picked it up personally from
the "factory" in Basingstoke. I never got the QL-style plastic cover for it;
they promised to send it.. but then, sadly, went bust - A foretaste of the
scandals to come in the QL world. I sold it when the <ahem> Trump Card came out,
as that basically did all the same things, only more compact (and with a cover!)
And, of course, 50% more memory.

Hi,

If you look in very early edition of QL User, August 1985, Page 6-7 Advert of Medic Systems and a review of the Medic Systems Interface on Page 20, , the link is here to Dilwyn's web site
http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/mags/qluserworld/1985-08.pdf

It is always worth looking at the older QL User/World magazines for information of the older hardware, there are also indexes to find the approapriate information required on the QL HOmepage.

Regards,

Derek
