The Sinclair QL Forum

So I’ve searched the forum for this and found various posts about it including the possibility that someone produced a 3D model of it but the links are all dead.

Can anyone who was around when those conversations were going on point me to where I might find the files? I’ve been talking to someone who has the skills needed to build replacement QL power supplies and the connector is actually the biggest issue at the moment.

Would some kind soul be able to measure the thickness of the metal contacting pins on an original power supply?

It's early days but the result of all this is likely to be stock of replacement QL power supplies so I feel like it's worth some effort

The pins look to be 1mm diameter - at least on the power plug for my QL.
It appears from an end on view, that these holes in the plug are actually slots - there's metal at the top and bottom. The holes are 1mm and 3 mm up from the base of the plug.

The image is probably no use whatsoever!

This might be useful.

You know those nifty little jumper wires you buy from Amazon and just about every Chinese manufacturer for use with Arduino and/or Raspberry Pi GPIO stuff? Well, I stuck the male end of one of those into the Ql's power plog holes - it fitted quite snugly and didn't fall out.

The female end fits nicely onto the power pins sticking out the back of the QL itself, again, quite snug and doesn't fall off. I recon you could, maybe, at a pinch, get three of those female ends, with the square plastic moulding, to fit side by side, onto the QL's power pins. Not the best or mose safe option I know, but I think it would fit.

Hi Norm,

Your drawing looks better than some of the sketches I was given, when I was a Mechanical Fitter.

The end plug profile could easily made on a modern 3D Printer, I could do a quick STL file to give some sort of solution for this.

There was another thread about a replacement QL power supply:

Where there was a solution for the QL PSU plug.

An STL file would be fantastic if you have the time!

If you are doing an STL file, the holes are 3 mm from the base of the plug in section. I forgot to put that somewhat important measurement on the diagram.
