PSU Question - Better safe than sorry

Post by kordics »

Hi everybody!

I have received UK version of PSU unit for QL. I live in Europe (continental part), so my question is it safe to use UK PSU in Europe without any adjustments except changing electric plug?

Best regards,
Stevan Kordic

Yes, 220-240 V at 50 Hz. :-)

I'm trying to remember if the QL PSU has a live, neutral and earth.

My UK PSU has only 2 wires, I guess live & neutral.

HI,

The voltages are the same, so just put a EU plug on the end, or fit a UK-EU adaptor.

The UK Colours are:

Brown : Live
Blue: Neutral

Earth maybe not fitted.

If there is a double square moulded or printed on the bottom of the psu where the label is, then NO earth should be connected - as that mark indicates the item is double insulated, and is isolated from mains earth - most of those early power supply models for home micro's fell into that category.

Yes, there is a double square on the bottom of the PSU. Also, there are only 2 wires: blue & brown, no wire for ground. I will buy just a plug and connect it to the PSU.

Thanks everyone for the clarifications!

Best regards,
Stevan

The QL PSU has a transformer and is unswitched, so the live/neutral matter is moot and it really does not matter which way it is wired. It is a double insulated power supply, so no ground.

The 240V PSU will work without issue on 210V to 270V, 50-60Hz.
