It would be good to see what actually has been connected.

My (red, as your's, apparently) GC doesn't have any patches on the solder side.

Hi tofro

Thanks for checking your card and advising!

Yes, my card is red also. So you see the little blue wire in my photo at the beginning of this thread? Well there is a similar length wire (red plastic tubing but hardly think colour will matter) on the back of the card in the same area of the card, connecting 2 solder points. Apologies that I cannot send a pic but I had to rush to get it packaged for when the courier arrived to collect it - I have sent it off to be fully checked over.

tofro - may I ask you a huge favour please? Would you mind taking a photo of the rear side of your Gold Card and posting it on this thread for me please? Just for peace of mind? Not a problem if it is not convenient for you but just thought I would ask.

Thank you!
Neil

Hi,

I have just remembered that there was a backplane for the QL called Qplane
QPLANE
QPLANE

Which allowed connection of QL expansions and powered from an AT power supply.

All expansions were required to be modified to run on 5v, which was mainly bridging the voltage regulator with a wire. Except for the Gold Card v2, v3 which inaddition to the voltage regulator bridge wire a modification to the Gold Card Clock was required, as the clock ran on 9v.

The Gold Card modification required a resistor and diode to be removed and an insulated wire joining 2 poits.

The details of the modification is detailed in the Qplane manual. Please attached PDF.

This could be the source of the modification on your Gold Card.

Who the heck is Dawn?
A detail that wasn't copied to the Tetroid cards ;) . Purportedly the spouse of one of the developers.
