Kempston Micro Disk QL Interface

Post by Mr_Navigator »

For those looking for a bargain, there is a QL disk Interface on eBay that is not identified as such, so it won't be under a QL search.

You will find it here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mystery-Compu ... 554wt_1398

Happy hunting

It is a good one - needs someone to take a picture for the QL Wiki if you win it!!

My guess is that the missing chip is the WD-1770 disk controller, as there is no sign of one!

Don't forget to buy a Hermes chip for this one, as the Schön keyboard bounces and makes repeated keyclicks (which can be corrected only by replacing the standard 8049 by the Hermes).
It also corrupts keyboard connectors on the main board, as the contacts of the replacement are wider then the flat original membrane. So the keyboard connectors will have bad contact in case that you want to use ocassionaly the original membrane keyboard.

I have a spare hermes standalone chip in another QL so I can always fit that :) Fingers crossed it might have goodies inside! 8-)

Snaffled those two auctions up, I have quite a collection of speccy disk interfaces now. Just missing the big opus discovery.

You could build your own if you can get the parts
