Nasta wrote:The chat keeps generating pop-ups persuading me to do stupid and violating things to my computer like installing useless and probably dangerous software... it's really annoying.
For example, the one which prompts you to update your Flash player...note the subtle mis-spelling of the adobe name... wonder what harmful adware or malware that actually installs?

I know companies can't police every advert and every download, however you'd think in general they'd take a stronger line on malware and adware since it brings their business into disrepute allowing adverts like this.

Obviously the free chat client we have been using is unacceptable.
We have ordered the advert free version. This should be active within the next four hours or so.

The last thing we want to do is put people off using the chat.

A totally free IRC client is Nettalk - http://www.ntalk.de/Nettalk/en/
This is the client I've been using on Windows, as mIRC isn't free and you have to register after 30 days.

I'll put together some guides on connecting to the forum chat using Nettalk this weekend.

If you use an external IRC client (which makes a lot of sense), you should point it to
irc.mibbit.net
and select the channel
#qlforum

In a few days time you can point it to: chat.qlforum.co.uk :ugeek:
Oh wait... That's top secret at the moment.....

It was good to see Nasta and Peter on there last night - quite interesting until my internet failed completely...
