I consider the chat a strictly private conversation. It is like persons meeting in a room or a phone conference in real life. I'd like to be asked for permission, even if the chat is recorded only privately. And I clearly disagree that a log with my chat conversation becomes public.

If this is changed, even temporarily for ideas like Dave has in mind, can I expect an eye-catching warning?

I agree with that too :) I suppose on a themed topic night or Q&A we could have someone who takes minutes and maybe posts them in a related thread on here?

I've made some changes to the chat interface, messages now include time-stamps.
Sounds are also enabled, so if you are sent a private message you'll be notified.

If we ever record any chat logs from the Q/A sessions, we'll make it quite clear on the announcement, and present you with a warning before and after you connect to the chat.

Finally went on the chat at the weekend, can thoroughly recommend it, as there is an immediacy to the responses although when several are talking at cross purposes it would have been nice to have another room to avoid some confusion. I also agree with what others have said about conversations being private 'as in a room'.

I would also like some more features such as configurable avatars, maybe something in the paid version rather than the free, lets see what develops.

The /help works and brings up

/help Display this help
/clear Clear the chat output in this channel
/query nick [msg] Open a PM to a user, with an optional message
/ignore nick Ignore the user in this channel
/unignore nick Unignore the user in this channel
/ulshow Show the user list
/ulhide Hide the user list
/showurl url Show a url/media next to the chat
/pastebin Show the pastebin
/server addr [nick] Connect to another server

/whois works well but its not on the above list, I found out that Dave's idle time is currently over 19 hours :D

I'm sure there are loads of others just waiting to be found. It would be nice not have some of them on screen as a guide, especially if you have loads of on-screen real estate

I was not idle! I was resting!

I was working on securing components for new QL interfaces. I just secured 16 WD1772 for £2.43 each.

Just wondered if there was any way of indicating in the header of the forum how many people are currently on the online chat - it might attract more people when there is a good discussion!
