I recently sent my only 100% working QL and some microdrives to a returning user Stateside. This means I don't have a QL with two working microdrives any more. Also, all my remaining microdrives are pretty much roached. The little foam pads have turned into sticky goo. They're also lumpy in use after years of sitting idle and the lubricant drying/settling/whatever.
I recall a few years ago someone was working on replacement pads - what is the state of play with that?
No, I know, I use floppies 99% of the time. However, if I cannot reliably format a microdrive and put it in the mail to someone and have it work at the other end, how am I supposed to send my neat new game to a landlocked BBQL user who doesn't have a disk interface?
Also, as a wry aside; does anyone remember the DiskWars? Or DiscWars if you were on the losing side? Back when some people spelled it disk and others disc? When there was a difference between a disk and a diskette?
