Saw the video linked on Facebook and watched it. Good video.

Your QL is almost ready. Just refurbishing a pair of really top notch microdrive units for you, then I’ll put it on a 48 hour soak test.

HI,

I am glad the magazines arrived okay in the USA, as shipping to the USA is sometime a problem.

The Maplins box came from some Maplins PC Case AT style, Beige in colour. Left over from the Q60 production. I have 6 of these cases and boxes.

If you decide to make some more Q60s, you're all set. You can do 6 "retro editions" and then start using a more modern case.

I'm still on the hunt for a small enclosure. Something about 8" x 8" x 2" would be ideal.

If only there was a satisfying solution for the flatscreen monitor issue! Re-casing the Q60 would be so much fun. :D I think about this for years, but can't find a good way.
  • Chip replacemend 1024x768 with black bars (existing): Very clear display, no interpolation on 1024x768 monitors, supports most devices, but: Unused areas
  • Chip replacemend 1920x1080 with double scan and interpolation (probably doable): Full screen area on FullHD, but: Interpolation visible, supports fewer devices
  • New graphics card: Technically better, but: Huge amount of work, mabye more than one PCB, effort not much less than a new Q60
  • New Q60: Technically ideal, but: Extra work if machine is kept 100% compatible, high costs, takes away "retro" character of the machine
At the German Sinclair meeting I still used the original video, because Detlef brought one of the few flatscreens which can handle it directly.

The best picture is still achieved with CRT monitors. But then it wouldn't be portable. :(
