Re: Replacements for Zx8301 / Zx 8302 / IPC

What worries me much more is the ZX8301. I'm not even sure that a PCB-based replacement for this chip would be accepted widely enough... But it is the most problematic for modern monitors and therefore the device most likely to be acceptable as replaceable even for purists? Good to hear Rich still ...

Re: Issue Tx boards discussions

If it wasn't for the lack of suitable mice, CTRL2 replaced with QIMI mouse would be ideal (no special mouse drivers required - built into PE and SMSQ/E). But I guess you would have sacrifice one of the ROM sockets to provide space for additional QIMI circuit directly on QL PCB.

Re: People's opinions on the best free software

Master Spy editor (fast, multiple views/files, loads anything regardless)

So useful I sometimes wish there was an Linux version.

Re: Bad Apple demos

One of the huge advantages that I used compared to your C code is that I fetch the data through low level raw sector access, I don't go through the file system layer. Aha! My attempts failed back in 2002 when trying to implement some sort of virtual memory swap file using normal driver access. Deco...

Re: Issue Tx boards discussions

3. We have free place and I add the battery backup socket and parts for ZX8302 battery input. These parts are optional. You'll need to prohibit access to ZX8302 until RESET ends else the 68008 can reset the QL Clock (spurious access for 4mS after voltage reaches 5V during reset). The QIMI circuit s...

Re: Issue Tx boards discussions

Regarding the AY3-89x, nice would be an on Tx board implementation of a let's say AY-3-8910A similar and compatible to the QSOUND expansion card. See thread https://qlforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1587 Regarding the firmware, a later version 1.31 can be found in the Toolkits section of the SB...

Re: Issue Tx boards discussions

But I see different between SER1 ( J6 ) and SER2 ( J5 ) on Issue 6 board: RxD and CTS - input for SER2 but output for SER1, TxD and DTR - output for SER2 but input for SER1 ). I'm a little confused what the correct and useful pinouts for new board?. I always thought the original idea was that SER1 ...

Re: "New" SD interface

I notice that you didn't use a trimmer capacitor with the PCF8583 crystal ? I built a Minerva Mk2 last year from discrete 74xx logic. Without a trimmer capacitor my PCF8583 clock ran very fast. With QL powered up it was 3 minutes fast per hour!, but only reducing to 20 seconds fast per hour when on ...

Re: Today I received...

I wonder if the eBay seller could find anything more to generate static electricity to zap them. (A Van-der-Graf generator won't fit in the bag.) ! Some of the ICs I get from china are packaged the same. I guess the real problem only arises with a potential between the pins destroying (or wor...

Re: 74HCxx vs 74LSxx

The red CPU sockets Sinclair used in QLs are really terrible. They will not reliably support any sort of daughter card at all. More than half of the problems with intyernal memories that used that socket were because of the socket. It would definitely be more reliable (and easier!) to put the CPU a...
