Re: A seat in the lifeboat

I was not aware of Petri Pellinen's device and did not mean to call it's success "unlikely".
My remark was related to the QL signal quality problems encountered during QL-SD development.
Good luck to you Petri!

Re: A seat in the lifeboat

Just having native TCP/IP support would not provide an original QL with reasonable internet connectivity, as the QL has only the serial port. One would want ethernet, and at the moment, only Q40 and Q60 have a hardware solution for that. Unfortunately, as programmable logic chips become faster and l...

Re: QL-SD card project

Is there a person who... A) has spare time? (most important) B) wants to build the QL-SD and learn the software/hardware issues? C) owns a QL and is willing to use it for testing the QL-SD? D) can solder TQFP and components with similarly small pads? E) can deal with ROM binaries and has equipment t...

A seat in the lifeboat

Hi, since the turn of the century, I invested a lot of time into some QL hardware and software projects. Except the Q60 Graphics Card, all of them actually worked, and have been shown to a few friends. I didn't have the motivation to finish them. For a long time, the reason was that I saw the requir...

Re: Faster/wider CPU...

The sources and Minerva 1.98 ROM images are freely downloadable from my website http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/qlrom/index.html to anyone who wants to have a look. I haven't checked the licence terms to see if it allows for modified derivatives to be used - I would presume that Peter has already looked at...

Re: Faster/wider CPU...

Oh your that Peter, let me publicly thank you for all the work you have put in to the SD card interface :) Your very welcome ;) Let's hope that my SuperGoldCard related problems with QL-SD were not general, but just my second hand black box. I now bought a brandnew German QL, which I shall try afte...

Re: Faster/wider CPU...

Just out of curiosity, which brand are you using ? Hehe... nice try ;-) If its XIlinx, haven't they hyped ability to debug internals through virtual signal analyzer ? I think it is called Chipscope... Thanks I'm aware of this kind of tools ;) The only method guaranteed to locate the problem would b...

Re: Faster/wider CPU...

This is my view, also. It is also why I am taking the low-hanging fruit of working with existing components - the cost, time and investment needed is substantially smaller than Peter's effort. It also eliminates a lot of the problems Peter has. It's hardly an ideal end result, but it is something. ...

Re: Faster/wider CPU...

Hi Brane, it's not a good idea to announce new hardware in public before it is likely that a product will result. An announcements create hopes, and not being able to fulfil them, is worse than no hopes at all. Once I made the mistake to leak that I work on something FPGA based, but please don't pus...

Re: Faster/wider CPU...

Hi folks, what a long thread about new hardware... maybe I should make a few comments. I'm aware of Natami. I contacted them in the hope their FPGA core was more correct than the one I use. Their answer sounded vague and not too optimistic. Moreover, their core is not available for others. My attemp...
