Re: QL Case designs...
I have submerged a computer in mineral oil, which works almost as well, but it has the same problems as Fluorinert - It creeps along by cappilary action between wire and insulation, then oozes out of the ends of all of the cables into your hard drives, power supply etc. Fire is a common result. :/ I...

QL Case designs...
Since a long term project is to design a QL2, I have been thinking about the case design process. One thing decided early on was that the QL2 PCB should fit in a QL case, but also mount happily in a picoATX case. This led me to think about extended ideas for case design. I have spent some time sketc...

Re: The humongous Sandy Electronics thread...
I'm lucky to only be designing boards with no internal cuts or angles.
QL2 might have some interesting panels though - it is likely to have SD storage. That's a whole other discussion...

Re: The humongous Sandy Electronics thread...
I've taken some time out from working on SuperRAM to resolve my hard drive woes for once and for all. I bought a 500GB SSD and installed it in my laptop. After two bouts of copying data over USB (five hours) I now have a spritely, quick booting, feisty laptop back, with super fast storage. Now, back...

I'm from Texas. Sometimes, I look outside and it's sunny, then I look outside again and it's still sunny!

Re: CST Q+4 Interface
It's pretty beat up. The cigarette residue on it was the worst I've seen in many years - I cleaned that off for you.
It does look like a reasonably well thought out buffer/line driver card though.

Re: has anyone tried reversing polarity on microdrive motor
The slack is normally 10mm in a new cartridge and 17-25mm in an older cartridge.

My first SSD....
Just experiencing an SSD in my daily use machine for the first time (I have had a 120GB SSD in a server for a while)... My previous boot time was 1m 42s, through USB2 with an external drive because the internal drive had died. With the SSD, it's 7 seconds. Safari used to take 16 seconds to launch. N...

Re: has anyone tried reversing polarity on microdrive motor
The tape is spooled onto the outside of the loop, and drawn from the inside. There's no way to run the tape in reverse. Instead of the loop going to the inside of the spool it would simply tangle at the capstan. Don't think of it as the tape being pushed to the outside of the loop - always think of ...
