It's pretty beat up. The cigarette residue on it was the worst I've seen in many years - I cleaned that off for you.

It does look like a reasonably well thought out buffer/line driver card though.

The slack is normally 10mm in a new cartridge and 17-25mm in an older cartridge.

The tape is spooled onto the outside of the loop, and drawn from the inside. There's no way to run the tape in reverse. Instead of the loop going to the inside of the spool it would simply tangle at the capstan. Don't think of it as the tape being pushed to the outside of the loop - always think of ...

I think it's completely feasible to replace the NET routines with code that encapsulates it and redirects it to ethernet, transparently to the program itself.
