Re: Target for major new QL hardware
I heard lots of talk of Q68 expansions, but nothing has ever come to fruition. Do they exist or is just or is this just waffle... I know of some that exist but are private hobby projects. I have to be self-critical here as I was too lazy to document the Q68 extension bus timings yet. Also I made th...

Re: Faster CPU plug in extensions, How?
I hear what you are saying from your experience but I don't understand how an 800 MHz cpu can't keep up with an 8 MHz and not sure what MMIO has to do with it? There might be a problem with the number of IO lines on the RPi but a speed problem. Firstly, the RPi GPIO, SPI etc. are unproportionally s...

Re: Target for major new QL hardware
So, you said the Q68 was made small because you dislike wasted board space. Yes and I don't even consider it very small. And now you're saying the Q Zero doesn't have a feature because it would take too much board space. :P Absolutely. The Qzero is a miniaturized tinkering board, unlike the Q68 whi...

Re: Target for major new QL hardware
The Qzero has hobbled graphics, though, which reduces the benefit. Give it full Q68 graphics and that becomes much more compelling. Via HDMI it has full Q68 graphics. I only reduced DAC width for VGA. To save space without need to handsolder 0204 resistors. One of the very few issues with daily use...

Re: Faster CPU plug in extensions, How?
The option also exists for Tetroid to (or to ask someone else to) port INGOT to a modern 5V tolerant FPGA. If you find a modern 5V tolerant FPGA please let us know... In doing so, DRAM handling could be simplified to SRAM, and refresh eliminated. Don't forget that video in highcolor needs a lot of ...

Re: Target for major new QL hardware
A slightly larger FPGA - to enable a separate bus for video memory so large screen sizes do not slow the entire machine Already routed and tested as part of the Qzero. Whether slightly larger or several 100% larger just a matter of target price. Separate PS/2 keyboard and mouse sockets - current do...

Re: Target for major new QL hardware
Ooh, please add that to the list...a combo extension card that can also be run standalone would be neat. Then everyone who wants either "extension card" or "standalone" would check "combo", losing any indication which actual usage is preferred. Every combo would be a c...

Re: Target for major new QL hardware
In short, a two-in-one board ("expansion card" and "stand alone" unit) and a second "docking station" type board to transform the new hardware into new QL motherboard that can fit inside QL box. (In the end we would have a three-in-one solution!). A "docking stati...

Re: Target for major new QL hardware
I have voted for the "QL extension slot plugin" and "QL mainboard replacement" options, but ..., could there be an option that combines these two? (In the style of "Turbo Chameleon 64" (https://www.vesalia.de/e_chameleon.htm)) A board that can operate as a "stand-...

Re: Target for major new QL hardware
For me, having a GoldCard type board is the most appealing. You want better performance and graphics, plug your new board. You want to go back to the BareBonesQL experience, just remove the board. However, if a plugin type board gets too limited by the QL interface for ay reason, then this is where...
