Re: Sandy RAM card, PAL blew up.

The PAL is a lost cause. They are plain combinatorial logic, but the logic has surely been damaged by the component falling to pieces. Also, the DRAM can no longer be trusted. As I recall, the PAL just used the CLKCPU signal and /AS and /DS to work out the CAS and RAS parts of the address bus to pas...

Re: Sandy RAM card, PAL blew up.

Hehe, well spotted. Any other expansion can fit on that connector, so you could use another 512K RAM expansion of a different brand if you like. Somewhere around here I have a vintage 512Kx8 SRAM version of the thru-con RAM card. It's not too different in logic from the internal 512K expansion. I'm ...

Re: Sandy RAM card, PAL blew up.

Unfortunately, this is a bit out of warranty. :D The card is simply a thru-con RAM card with the DIN connectors not fitted. I didn't assemble/test that specific SQB board as mine only had pins fitted where signals were used. Sorry, I don't have the PAL equations. I wish I did - they would solve a lo...

Re: Ethernet for the QL

I think you finely demonstrated my point. ;)

Anyhow, I look for ward to more alternatives to the really outdated CP2200 chip. Alternatives that reduce the burden on programmers and users but most of all on the system.

Re: Ethernet for the QL

And that’s why there are three solutions for the QL. Some people want the stack run for them and a driver. Some people want a TCP stack hidden behind a Hayes interface. Others want a manually operated, TCP stack in the QL, hardware to wiggle the bits and do everything manually. I think only one of t...

Re: New Q68 Case

The sockets were so cheap and tarnished Sinclair was probably paid to use them.

Almost as bad as the CPU socket.

Re: New Q68 Case

If you just use plain sockets and put the resistor in a jack, it works. Much cheaper than sourcing the switched jacks. This was in answer to Derek’s add-on, not the original design. Not that the termination was ever any good anyway.

Re: New Q68 Case

A 3.5mm jack with a termination resistor solves this quite neatly.

Re: using floppy drives with gold card

All future designs of floppy interfaces for the QL should have a bit flip jumper that just puts the drive select line through an inverter.

QL<->PC

Problem solved.
