Re: Sinclair QL Floppy Disk Interfaces

I have a photo for you, luckily. You can check the quality of the image yourself. Please note that it looks a lot more fuzzy in the picture, firstly because it's a low-light photo, which means long-ish exposure time and thus, some movement and secondly because it's been resized to a lower resolution...

Re: Miracle Systems Floppy PSU

Mark, I had a second look, I don't think you're right mate. The only thing I was wrong was the 7812; it's probably a 7805. The output from the transformer goes through the bridge and then directly onto the 7805. The big ass capacitor is between ground and bridge positive, and the two smaller ones ar...

Re: Miracle Systems Floppy PSU

Yikes!
Transformer, rectifier bridge, shitty capacitors, 7812, no filtering?
Mate, do yourself a favour and get an SMPS unit to replace that thing... seriously.

P.S. Stupid question: you *have* checked the fuse, right?

Re: Sinclair QL Floppy Disk Interfaces

Mark, what do you mean? Why SRAM? Or, what do you mean, "modern" DRAM? As in... DDR perhaps? And use it how? Personally, I am not interested in a new super-QL. The modern computers are enough and there are other options as well for tinkering (like the Pi). For me, even a SuperGold is margi...

Re: Jurgen Falkenberg Keyboard Interfaces

Actually, I do use them quite a lot. In the last two months alone I've had about 5 computers delivered to me, so I have nothing bad to say. Yes, they are not the fastest bunch, but I've got no issues with that; after all, you're only paying them £5. As for speed, ParcelForce is lightning fast. I've ...

Re: Jurgen Falkenberg Keyboard Interfaces

Actually, all PS/2 keyboards work the same way as AT keyboards. It's just the plug that differs, from DIN 5 to miniDIN 6 (XT/AT and PS/2 respectively). I have adapters for both ways. I've been using my old AT keyboard on modern PCs for years and I've used PS/2 keyboards even on old 286 PCs with no p...

Re: Miracle Systems Floppy PSU

Without knowing the particulars of the unit, I'm quite confident it can be replaced with a modern switching-mode power supply that will also be more reliable, more stable, much cooler and probably weigh 1/10th of the original. You could even keep it outside the unit, if you'd prefer that. A couple o...
