Re: ULTRA GOLD CARD

As the author of said vaporware, I can only agree. When I did Aurora I hoped it would get the QL out of it's old case but no such luck... If the announcement was about a variant of the GoldFire, then why does it say "Miracle Systems" and not "Nasta"? Are you sure this was not so...

Re: ULTRA GOLD CARD

These guys were obviously not reversing into the future! Sadly, the age of the giants appears to be over for now.. A machine with even better specs plus a fast 32 bit QL graphics controller actually materialized... the Q60... and the designer is still active. Also the man who sold it. Seems like fi...

Re: QL-VGA

Theold solution of using the cheap City-Skys Chinese scart-hdmi upscaler worked well, including fixing the "missing pixels" issue, but was clumsy [...] A separate box and external power supply would also be needed here, unless there are design changes: Migrate to a modern power-saving FPG...

Re: Let us chat about Desktop Publishing on the QL

With the original QL, you'll have to collect a number of items, some of them historical, before you have a relatively useful machine. Typically you'll have some repair issues like most of us. You won't be able to directly connect monitors and mice which are available new. With focus on hardware tink...

Re: Let us chat about Desktop Publishing on the QL

Yeah but we are hardware tinkerers, while TJ seems more software (and mouse) oriented ;)

Re: Let us chat about Desktop Publishing on the QL

Will learn the basics "mouse-less" at first but hope to get a supported mouse down the road with a boosted up QL. In addition to the QL you'll typiclally need a video converter, memory expansion or (Super)GoldCard, QIMI and QL-SD at least. Plus (Super)Hermes if you need reliable SER. And ...

Re: What makes the OS for QL any better, different, unique ?

Although the QL came earlier than ST and Mac, the multitasking scheduler was already preemptive - technologically superior to the cooperative multitasking of the other machines, where every program could block the whole system. The ease and power of networking was amazing, you could access windows, ...

Re: Optimal Flatscreen monitors for QL and Q68

But the Q68 has 1024x768 output and no horizontal overscan like the original QL. On a 4:3 flatscreen monitor, the aspect ratio will be 4/3. I still don't quite understand what you mean. In the QL modes, the Q68 creates rectangular "QL pixels" that are 2x3 screen pixels, so the complete 4:...

Re: Optimal Flatscreen monitors for QL and Q68

If the aspect ratio was indeed 4:3, the resolution would be 512x384, not 512x256. I meant the actual screen aspect ratio, not pixel shape. Most CRT screens were about 4:3, and that determined the historic QL look - which the Q68 reproduces in the QL modes. QL pixels were knowingly designed non-rect...

Re: A question about OPEN

Hi Martin,
I use the "get system information" trap for that.
Peter

Code: Select all

MT.INF equ 0
            moveq #MT.INF,d0
trap #1 ; Get current job ID in d1
