Re: New hardware...

It is likely you will at least need a new keyboard membrane - if the membrane tails are already damaged, they probably have cracks elsewhere which will stop them from working. It is hard to diagnose at a distance. It could just be that your keyboard membrane has failed, so you cannot press either F1...

Re: New hardware...

If there is no response to the keyboard, then it sounds as though (presuming the membrane is OK), that it is a motherboard failure. This could be a ram problem, although I would normally expect the ram test to at least start. It is more likely to be one of the socketed chips has failed - 8302 or 830...

Re: Faulty membrane ?

Hmm - this is very odd - you could risk using the Samsung keyboard to get the QL past the F1/F2 screen and then plug in the other keyboard whilst the QL is live - at least then you would know if it is just the function keys not working or all the keys.... If could be the lack of screws as they are n...

Re: New hardware...

OK no picture at all (black screen) - presumably you get the power on light - does the F1 key fire up the microdrive?

If so then it is probably just the video controller chip - either the 8301 or MC1377P (probably the latter)

Re: New hardware...

So can you describe what happens when you power up the QL? Have you looked to see if any of the pins in the expansion connector (left hand side of the machine) are bent or touching each other?) I have other QIMI interfaces here if you need a replacement. You can easily negate the QIMI by unplugging ...

Re: Hardware incompatibilities

You may spot that I have listed a Gold Card on sellmyretro.com I may have another PCML Q+Disk Interface here which supports DD disks, has some onboard RAM and a cut down Toolkit II I will test it when I get some time, and see if I can get it to work - I had put it in my spares box, but then I found ...

Re: New hardware...

Does the QL work on its own? If not, maybe we can help from afar... If the QL works on its own, but not when you plug in the Gold Card, check to see if any of the pins in the expansion connector are bent, or touching each other (can also stop the QL on its own from working), or even broken off! If t...

Re: Trump card

I think it might be the crystal which has gone, as even after resoldering it is still very wobbly - so I guess one of the legs may be broken....

Is my opinion that some chips on expansion board have timing problems
Is that the expanderam or the Q+disk interface?
