Re: Help needed :-)

I am in a similar position having just returned to QL land after a long hiatus. This is what I did, up to you what you do entirely: 1. Original QL Yes, this is what I have 2. Minerva ROM I obtained this from Chr$ via eBay Germany, he can probably help with this as he's on this forum 3. Something lik...

Re: QConnect Software

Thank god for forums like this, I just found my Q-Connect stack of 3 modules. The manual I have is intact and aside from some scribblings from a previous owner, in great condition. Sadly the microdrive cartridge self destructed some time ago, so very happy to have found the software for download her...

Re: Minerva - In need of some help please

So I finally decided to pull the ROM from the Sandy and it wasn't too hard to replace the TK II section, as it was the last 16K of the 32k ROM. I dropped in a newer version of TK II and it worked just fine first time. I did also try it with just the Sandy ROM, but decided in the end to go with the T...

Re: External QL microdrive?

That's actually quite interesting and informative - I really just wanted to get a set up using the microdrive expansion slot to test internal mdv units to see if they were faulty or not without having to fit hem in the QL case. I have previously physically swapped mdv1 with mdv2 and both worked bef...

Re: External QL microdrive?

Most of the QL<->Microdrive connectivity is simply a bus that should in no way be affected by the position where a drive is actually connected. The only signal which is actually actively driven by connected drives is the COMMS IN/COMMS OUT line that is daisy-chained through the drive chain and actu...

Re: External QL microdrive?

Hi Keith ...would the interference prevent the drive from even being detected in slot 1? Or would it merely prevent it from operating correctly, because in y case the QL didn't even see the drive. If, when you say "...the QL didn't even see the drive", did the (originally unit-1) drive sp...

Re: External QL microdrive?

As for the switching round of MDV#1 and #2 - its usually due to a faulty ULA on one of the units which may or may not render that unit dead, but also anything further down the serial 'chain'. Thus you might well find as you did that one works only on the left, but when connected to the right of (fa...

Re: External QL microdrive?

If I am correct, the internal microdrives have specific IDs that can't easily be changed, kind of like SCSI ID. I tried swapping the internal microdrives (my mdv1_ is flaky), which seem to be labelled 1 & 2 and they don't work swapped. Nope. The drives don't have IDs - they are addressed by the...
