Re: Extra RAM "killer app"?
Well, for me it's the other way round, what DOES work with 128KB? Almost nothing in my world except the oldest of games. When I add a QL-SD (I liked your previous QL videos, so contact me if you are interested) to my machine with a 50MB partition the FAT alone will not fit in that kind of RAM. Besi...

Extra RAM "killer app"?
Hi everybody, I'm working on a new video on Sinclair QL upgrades and one of them is a RAM expansion. I get that more RAM probably means you can have larger documents when working with office apps and development. But is there a "killer app" for having more than 128K RAM? Something that mos...

Re: #QLvember
Great video and so very detailed. I loved the timing part too...it's one of the points that Sinclair Research made in their advertising stating that once it finds the sector the throughput would be faster due to lack of seeks (of course they ignored the reliability issue). I did use micrdrives in t...

Re: #QLvember

I will definitely be having more QL content in the future. I'm having too much fun with this computer to stop now

I'm really liking the upgrades. And since I was thinking of getting the same ones... I think I'll buy it from you if it's still available I'll send you a PM.

One more entry for #QLvember: QL Restoration and History https://youtu.be/n3Di1-JvWyA I'll have one last #QLvember video on Thursday looking in depth at microdrives and (hopefully!) fixing one :D Spotted pics of my QEPIII EPROM programmer and my Gold Card (which is fine, just saying)! You'll get th...

Re: Problems with microdrive. Bad ULA?
I've done some more diagnosing and it looks like the ULA is indeed faulty (following the instructions in the technical manual with the 100KHz signal and looking at the ULA signals directly). I've seen mentions that replacing the ULA isn't trivial and I see that it's going to affect the read head in ...

Oh, great stuff. I hadn't found that in my initial searches. Looking at it now. Thanks Chris!Chr$ wrote:There's some info here:

Problems with microdrive. Bad ULA?
Hi everybody, Now that I have a QL working, I'm making a new video for #QLvember on the QL and specifically on the microdrives. Much to my surprise, it looks like one of my microdrives isn't working correctly. It was mdv1_ (like I've read in other threads that's the most common one to go). It would ...
