Hi Urs,

Great video, lots of interesting computer equipment.

I used to us a QL to connect t Unix mainframes via QTPI and a USR Robotics modem.

Did they have a Cray running?

I bought my 1st personal Sinclair QL Professional Computer. This changed my life in many ways. To celebrate this I’ve spent an hour today to re-publish the QL chronology webpage which has been taken down by the ISP Swisscom last autumn due to end of service of their xy.homepage.bluewin.ch hosting package.

Ha! I found a case of tax evasion! How long does law prosecution take to expire for that in Switzerland? ;)

I bought my first QL at around the same time. And, contrary to to the numerous other computers I have bought since then, the QL is still the only one I have, for some unknown reason, kept the receipt as well.
The first QL has long seen its last days, and thus the scrap yard, it was modified nearly beyond recognition, built in a PC case, pimped and had experienced some disastrous encounters with my soldering iron.

My today's main BBQL was bought in late 1986 (so, still some months to wait for celebrations over here) when there was another severe price cut, but is still (mainly) the original one, today accompanied with some other ones I bought second hand and refurbished.

...it all ended, at least officially. Today 30 years ago what was announced to the press resulted in a new start for almost the entire crew of Sinclair Research Ltd.

At 20 seconds there's a short scene of how work in the Sinclair offices was.

QL forever!

Dear QLers,

from the comments to my last post (none) it seems that no one out there really cares about the QL’s history. Whatever. Here’s another post.

Today is a very special day for me.

In that week 30 years ago the Sinclair computer business was bought by Amstrad and the QL was axed. It was that Sunday after the press conference when the message did arrive here in Switzerland. I was in my first months with my first personal QL so the news hit me hard.

On today’s date 16 years ago my son was born. This was one of the greatest moments in my entire life.

I’m currently in the process of releasing the next version of THE DISTRIBUTION. Recent updates of SMSQ/E and SMSQmulator have been worked in. Major changes and enhancements are in the QL/E part of THE DISTRIBUTION. The start-up sequence (aka BOOT program) of QL/E has been reworked and enhanced to enable QL/E to also run on QPC1, uQLx (Raspberry PI), QL with QL-SD (should also run on the MIST) and Q-emuLator. As a goody QL/E now comes with Per Witte’s D-Miner game and an adapted version of Francois Lanciault’s 2048 game.

While QL/E is ready for release today, completion of THE DISTRIBUTION may take some more days.
Download link see message footer below.

QL forever!

Cheers,
Urs

HIstory? Nostalgia? I am still living the QL dream :D

My own business is 30 this year (November).

As for the QL/E - just a couple of points that have come about recently - it might be better to default to Menu_rext v7, so that the Create New Object works in QDT.

Also, does anyone know how to get the link to Psion Chess in QDT working? The problem is that QL Chess assumes the QL screen location - but QDT won't start in 512x256 mode with QL Colour mode.

Didn't QPC2 used to copy over the QL screen location into the top left hand corner for such eventualities (although this would presumably not work in high colour mode). It didn't seem to work even in standard QL colour mode with higher resolution so maybe this screen mirroring is broken...
