Graphics program for SMSQ/E
Graphics program for SMSQ/E
Which is the best graphics program to use on SMSQE ?
One that would work correctly both on QPC and on BBQL mode 4 and 8 and prefarably uses the mouse
Most of the programs I tried are not usable on QPC because of the high speed and using SLUG is not always a viable option.

Hi Andrew,
By graphics pprogram do you mean image processing: Photon, PhotoQL, or maybe a vector drawing program, Line Design, but that needs ProWeS.

By image processing I mean something at least like Paintbrush on windowsDerek_Stewart wrote:Hi Andrew,

Photon ... isn't only an image viewer? Not graphic editor. Same goes for PhotoQL. And as both need colour drivers, I guess they are not of much use on BBQL
LineDesign needs ProWes and I have not installed it ... Maybe I'll try it
I have tried Leonardo - doesn't work (tried to discharge it - but failed)
I have tried QDraw - it works, but it's far from user-friendly
Nucleon only works on JS ROM
GraphicQL+ and The Painter are both nice, but cursor is too fast and unusable on QPC (well, even on SGC is too fast)
Have I missed any image editor?

Re: Graphics program for SMSQ/E
QDesign was pretty cool back then, a bit like Paint on Windows. But it was pre-GD2 so has some problems with more resolution and high colour. Could be an interesting target for decompilation though.
Re: Graphics program for SMSQ/E
I don't have QDesign. Could you send me a copy?mk79 wrote:QDesign was pretty cool back then, a bit like Paint on Windows.

There is DP's Eye-Q. Dont know if its any good (a long time since I used it) or if it works with SMSQ.Andrew wrote:Which is the best graphics program to use on SMSQE ?

Qptr came with a sample paint program, paint_bas, I think. This was TT's demo of the PI & Qptr's abilities and was never a finished product. Last time I tried, it totally crashed my system. I didnt try very hard to figure out why. But when it did work, back in the day, I always thought it had the potential to be one of the best mouse-driven paint-type programs for the QL. A great project for someone to take on and finish!

GigaChrome looks nice - but I couldn't make it work with a mouse. The cursor moves too fast when you use the keyboard, even on an unexpanded QL (maybe it can be configured to move slower, but I have not spent any time on this). Oh, and it only works in mode 8 but not in mode 4.dex wrote:And Giga Chrome.
It probably support the ABC mouse.

Where can I find Eye-Q? I could not find it on Dilwyn's site.pjw wrote:There is DP's Eye-Q. Dont know if its any good (a long time since I used it) or if it works with SMSQ.
Yes, it does. But if it's the same Paint that is bundled with QLE than it just crashes.pjw wrote:Qptr came with a sample paint program, paint_bas, I think.
