QL-style Raspberry Pi case

Post by Dave »

I am working on a design for a Raspberry Pi case in the style of the Sinclair QL black ABS case. It will be printed on a 3D printer. The idea here is to make a tough, nice looking case for the Pi that QLers will instantly recognize.

Most likely, it will look like a Tandata modem box, but smaller.

One option is to include a mini PSU to run the Pi, based off a mains->USB adaptor of the type found for $5 that autoranges from 100-240V...

Ideas - let's share them!

Sounds good! How about having the word "Pi" using the Sinclair font (sorry, fount!) on the cover :)

I just ordered my Pi the other day - 17 weeks to wait. Sigh. I'm looking forward to running it as a mini database server - let's see how much I can push

Each case being individually made, I can put a custom name on each one :)

You can sure tell it is the summer in England - quieter here than a crypt!

Haha. I'm spending the summer tinkering with my fleet of bangers. The MG needs a bit of work but I was sad to see the Alfa go.

How about a QL style case but the microdrive end holds your USB thingys and the top is flat so you can velcro a black usb keyboard on? Or maybe make it QL shaped but smaller, like a micro QL.

I'll play with all these ideas, and more:

* choose a common USB keyboard and create a riser for it to separate the top and bottom case, allowing room for all connectors and a PSU and etc.

* a mini adaptor allowing a Pi to fit in a QL case, or an entire new case bottom (plus a membrane->USB adaptor and other not hard but not easy trickery)

* a miniature case in the shape of a QL but 5cm x 15cm - containing just the Pi and a mini PSU and having all sockets available on the edge

* someone suggested a mini mini mini tower case in the same style, like a book PC

* someone suggested a 2001-esque obelisk - sounds like a neat idea, with the sockets hidden behind hidden flaps... Hidden^2

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid you can't do that...

:D

Hmm some of those suggestions Dave might not work:

I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do

I've just picked up a fault in the AE35 unit. It's going to go 100% failure in 72 hours

It can only be attributable to human error.
