QLers with Retro Motor cars
Inspired by techy and vanpeebles in another post, I think I have discovered another QLer (or 2) that are partial to old cars as well as old computers. I wonder if that's a trend among us? If you have a QL interest and a parallel old car interest, post details of the latter here.
To start, here are my oldies:
1970 Triumph 2000 in Damson red, LHD, originally a French registered car. 1980 Triumph TR7 DHC in black, originally a Florida registered car. 1986 Isuzu Trooper, white/gold 2 door LWB, It's a scruffy old reliable diesel thing that I use like a van and for the 4WD in winter, originally also a US car.
1988 Ford Escort in diamond white, just for fun as it was low miles and low owner. It was sold new in W.Germany.
The Triumph dominance is due to my dad owning a few in the 80s (and granddad before him in the 60s) so I kind of feel at home with them.

They are lovely! I’d love a TR8! My 1980 MGB is the LE version with the mg version of your alloy wheels! I have two sets, I also have a 1995 Rover Mini which I’m currently rebuilding.

The TR7 wheels are actually from a 90s MGF. I went with those as they look most like contemporary minilites but at 15" you can easily find modern tyres for them. I wouldn't mind a TR8 either.vanpeebles wrote:They are lovely! I’d love a TR8! My 1980 MGB is the LE version with the mg version of your alloy wheels! you know david and goliath ( my 1985 metro turbo , and my brothers 1992 Subaru svx ) , they are still there
but there have been several changes to the family ;
2007 legacy 3.0 R spec B used as daily for years , small mods done ( own import ) road legal = sold
1996 2.0 impreza turbo full mods 300+ hp , all modified ( japanese works ecu ) road legal , appearance as stock version = sold
2010 2.5 legacy turbo full mod , all modified ( own import ) road legal , with some nice tricks = sold
2008 3.6 tribeca all Original another daily = sold
all cars are unique , as production levels were very low , or Benelux never had them .
Always cool to work on those as Subaru is a very special brand , imagine buying NEW spares for a 1992 svx of which only 25k were build worldwide .

Here are some pics, I also have a Land Rover Discovery 3, so plenty of stuff to twirl spanners at!
I would love an MG Metro Turbo too!
The mini is my project during the lock down, trying to get stuff bolted back onto it, after years of being in bits.

I nearly bought the UK version of one of these but went for my Disco 3 instead.techy wrote:you know david and goliath ( my 1985 metro turbo , and my brothers 1992 Subaru svx ) , they are still there

Re: QLers with Retro Motor cars
I'm with you! Yes I've seen that type on the MGB before and they are very similar to the 2500S/Stag (those were the original Triumph models they came on) but I don't think they're the same fitment, at least I've not heard of Triumph people fitting the MG wheels. Maybe they are though, despite the historic Triumph/MG rivalry between the factories (and a lot of the owners).vanpeebles wrote:

I think they are a slightly modified recast of the original wheels, the number on them is different too.Chr$ wrote:I'm with you! Naked, machined alloy though, so a pain to clean and even worse to keep free of corrosion.

Re: QLers with Retro Motor cars
The MGB version was painted, two different tones depending on UK or US I think. It's a very dark grey rather than black. I had a pair with winter tyres done in gun metal.
