QLis30 presentation priorities?

Post by Peter »

I hope to offer three presentations at "QL is 30", two of my software projects and one hardware:

* QLPUI: GUI with modern look & feel, themes, proportional fonts, and other features not yet available on the QL. Runs completely without Pointer Environment.

* QLwIP: Native ethernet and TCP/IP: Ethernet connectivity, webserver, email, browser and file transfer without emulation.

* Q68: Compact and modern QL compatible mainboard, running QDOS Classic and Minerva

While each of the projects might in some way be of fundamental interest, the QLis30 website rightfully asks to keep presentations short.

Any input where I should set the priorities?

Damn - would love to see presentations of them all - my preference would be for the QLPUI and QLwIP as this is going to be of interest to a lot more users in my opinion...

The QLwIP sounds great. Will it run on a blackbox QL? etc etc.

I actually tried QLPUI and QLwIP on a QL and both worked with small modifications.

QLPUI supports only serial mouse at the moment, a QL would call for QIMI support. Also, since the black QL has very small resolutions, one would need to design smaller fonts and specialized theme to look good. QLPUI would probably require a Gold Card for decent speed and memory.

QLwIP runs on a memory expanded black box QL over the serial line with SLIP protocol. This allows TCP/IP connection to a Linux machine. Unfortunately, Windows longer includes the SLIP protocol. Suitable ethernet hardware for the QL does not yet exist, but changes to support something like a CP2200 chip should be relatively small.

Thank you for the superb presentation. I think my favorite part was the web server accessing the floppy drive to send out a page 8-)

You're very welcome. The idea of running everything from floppy came from reducing the weight of my flight luggage. But it was funny in the end. :D

There was something reassuring about seeing the floppy drive light come on :)

You mean reassuring the data was actually coming from QDOS? ;)
