Hi Peter, I bought an OSSC Kaico v1.6 scan doubler from Amazon for my Q60 during lockdown. Yes it was a bit pricey but I wasn't able to spend on much else, and if you think about the price of the scan doubler to what I paid for the Q60 20 or so years ago which I think if my memory is correct was around £700 it doesn't seem unreasonable to buy one to keep the Q60 going. I have used Thierry's settings with a cheap flat screen and while not perfect it is definitely usable.

There were Q60-60, Q60-66, Q60-80, wwhat type of Q60 do you have?

The OSSC is open source, but PCB seems expensive, I was always wondering how hard it would be to make a OSSC.

This is my Q60 with your updated VGA chip same monitor :

Of the two I prefer the OSSC.

Of course - the modified Q60 video chip is not suitable for widescreens at all.
It is for monitors with native 1024x768 resolution or at least 4:3 aspect ratio.
With a 1024x768 monitor, you get an absolutely crystal clear picture. With a black bar :(

Here is the updated video chip with an older monitor with 4:3 aspect ratio. Again I still prefer the OSSC output. A lot of what you get with either solution is down to the quality of the monitor. If you are fortunate enough to have an old flat screen monitor with a 1024x768 resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio you are OK, if not then at the moment it seems the choices are use an OSSC, ditch the Q60/40 and go to emulation or to the Q68 which is nice but very slow at higher resolutions, or back to the black box.

Cheers

I bought mine brandnew.

The Qzero allows over 100% speed increase in highres/highcolor, due to the separate VRAM.
I didn't yet activate this feature due to the QIMSI development, but it is trivial and I'll probably demo at the international QL meeting in May.

Hi Peter, Thanks for the link. I was intending to ask you the make and model of the monitor you recently bought. Its not on the UK site but I can easily order it from the German site.

Cheers

Same item in UK

Edit: (to save another post in this thread). I find Amazon's search for products useless, too often I only find what I want when I do it in a roundabout way.
