Norm's Blog and QDOSMSQ Web Site

Post by NormanDunbar »

Qdosmsq.dunbar-it.co.uk has been offline for a wee while. For those who don't know, this was my online QDOS/SMSQ Internals Wiki and was written by myself and George Gwilt back in the annals of history. It appears that nobody noticed! :o :o :o

As my hosting invoice has become ready for payment, I'm wondering if anyone cares if I take down the existing Wiki as all the information, and more, is available at Wolfgang's excellent site, https://www.wlenerz.com/qlstuff/ especially the regularly updated QDOS/SMSQ User Guide which has all the details of my site contained within.

Also, my old "Rants and Raves" blog has been converted from Wordpress to Hugo, which is a static site generator, and now gets served up from GitHub. You can access my ramblings and various notes about stuff I'm doing at http://blog.dunbar-it.co.uk (http, not https) which will redirect you to https://normandunbar.github.io/RantsAndRaves (httops, not http!!!) where the blog is now located.

Please let me know if I should bother with the old QDOSMSQ wiki or not. Thanks.

Cheers,
Norm.

Hi Norm!

I used to trawl your QDOS internals site a lot - I liked the format and style, as much as the info, which, as you say, is now fairly well covered elsewhere.

Thanks for hosting it as long as you did!

I'm with martyn_hill when he wrote " I liked the format and style, as much as the info".
In my opinion your site http://qdosmsq.dunbar-it.co.uk/doku.php is well worth bothering with.
If you decide to get rid of it, would you mind if I downloaded it for offline use?

I used to take a peek every now and then, but after a while it seemed not to change very much - at least not on the QL side - so I may have forgotten about it. (Sorry)

Maintaining a site can be a lot of bother and expense, so youll have to decide whether it is worth your while to continue. Please just make sure that any unique information (eg your exploration of file systems) is available somewhere where it can be found when needed.

Thank you for your efforts so far!

I also had a look every now and then using your site as a reference, especially during times the available documentation online wasn't much more like horrible scans of the Technical Guide (or not even that...).

Today, I'm mostly using Wolfgang's very good and up-to-date manuals for reference. I do appreciate keeping a site up-to-date and continuously adding information is eating a tremendous amount of time (and I did like your presentation very much - As much as I liked Per's when he sill had his site up), but Wolfgang's documents are just a lot more complete, sorry.

Just to let you know, my qdosmsq Wiki is now, temporarily, offline. My hosting bill was up for renewal so I cancelled it.

I have backups of the site.

Any email addresses @qdosmsq.dunbar-it.co.uk will no longer work. You can email me at qdosmsq at dunbar-it.co.uk now.

Cheers,
Norm.
