Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb :!:

Dave wrote:No. Your next purchase should be a QubIDE or QL-SD. Getting you using and saving data with the display you have will be more immediately rewarding. Also, it'll give you a good sense of what we've been through the last 34 years and help you understand some of the software design decisions.

You're trying to avoid the bad bits. I'm sorry, but you need to "take your lumps" ;)

What's Italian for "take your lumps"?
Dear Dave,
You are true, I've posted on this forum, asking for a QL disk interface.
The QubIDE was one of my choice.
Please tell me your cons and pros.

Dear Dave,
I bought the QL because 34 years ago when it came out, I had a Spectrum (which I still use) and I could not afford a PC so expensive.
I have always read so much about the QL and the innovative solutions that it had adopted and I would have liked many times to try and learn them better.
Now I want to use it mainly to know it, using the software available and modify it by adding hardware solutions (also DIY), in a few words have fun with it! :-)

Ok. Well, honestly, I would keep it pretty simple.

A QL-SD. Put it in place of Microdrive 2, then keep microdrive 2 as a spare. This also gives you Minerva.

A 4MB RAM expansion.

A decent way to output to an LCD monitor. Older early 2000s monitors will often display correctly on the VGA input if you use a regular RGB to VGA adaptor, as discussed elsewhere. You could go the HDMI route, but that pretty much forces you to a 16:9 display and all the display ratios being off - a 4:3 LCD will look much more natural.

In my humble opinion, every thing else is a luxury, and those are the basics.

Hi,

I have QL-SD in MDV1 slot and vDrive-QL in MDV2 slot.

If I need to use a real Microdrive, there is a network connection to another QL with micordrives.

But on saying all this, I never like the Microdrive on the Spectrum and QL. But we are stuck with it.

Maybe the IBM Microdrive would a good solution.

@Dave
@Derek_Stewart

I like SD-QL very much, where I can buy this?
But I like also QubIDE :-)
Do you know If it's possible to have SD-QL and QubIDE togheter and use them without incompatibility?
Thanks

Yes, you can use both together. There are no conflicts.

There aren't currently any new QL-SD for sale, but there will be in a few weeks. The QL-SD 2 is prototyping now...
