Adventure Hints: Voyage of the Beano?

Post by tofro »

During the summer holidays, I have found a bit of spare time to enjoy myself with playing some old games - So i tried to solve "Voyage of the Beano" on QPC2 - No problems running that with a bit of help from QPC_QLSCREMU and the dev device.

Does anyone have some hints (no full solution, please...) to get past the conquistadores on the South american mainland?

In case I manage to solve it completely (and still have a bit of holidays left), I might write up a walkthrough through the various puzzles.

Thanks
Tobias

Have you tried looking through the old QLAFs?

I was hooked on this adventure a while ago, completed it, but... now I really have to think VERY hard. I think it had something to do with burning the tobacco to make it look like the volcano was going to erupt...or was that after passing the conquistadores?? :?

Greets,
Luk

QLAF ceased to exist about the time Beano was released - The last issues I could hold of contain a review, but no hints.

QLLR (Leisure review(?)) made it a bit longer, but stil doesn't have a hint section on it.

Great! Burning the tobacco worked, thanks!

(Although it just got me stuck on the next location, as apparently the priest in the temple wants something I dont have yet)

I've not played it much but any newcomer to the QL should play it or even anyone else who hasn't played it. The graphics are brilliant. :)

Hi,

I remember playing this on a real QL, when it was on sale. Quite an engrossing game. I can not remeber ever completing it.

I have got it working on QPC2, with: QPC_QQCSEMU 8, which lets QPC2 intercept the QL screen calls to the the QL Screen memory.

I defined DEV1_ to map to "win1_beano_" and redined FLP device as DEV.

FLP_USE FDD : REMark Temporary Device for FLP
DEV_USE 1,"win1_beano_" : REMark Point Dev1_ to beano directory
DEV_USE FLP : REMark DEV is now FLP

So now when I enter LRUN "flp1_boot", the Voyage of the Beano begins.

I also tried this on QEMulator, loading the BEANO_ZIP file to the slot 1 and started the emulator, the Voyage of the Beano started without any problems.

Regards,

Derek

Hi,

I tried Voyage of the Beano on SMSQmulator and the game did run, but not with the graphics. This is due to the SMSQmulator not having a QLSCREMU command. I have asked Wolgang if it is possible.

Made it through the game at 100%.

If anyone wants to play that game as well during the summer break (strongly recommended), I have sent a cheat sheet to Dilwyn for putting up on his page - Hopefully, it is going to show up shortly. But keep trying to solve the puzzles yourselves - It's going to spoil a lot of fun with the puzzles.

Have fun!

Maybe we should have a new area on the website simply called 'GAMES' then we could have threads like this together and easier to find...
