Odd QL behaviour

Post by Haemogoblin »

So I left my QL turned on running Quill, it had been on for at least an hour before I popped downstairs. When I came back the screen had froze.

If this was a Beeb, I'd say the psu is overheating. And it is getting warm behind MDV1

It is not that odd unfortunately.

It might be that you need to replace the regulator - but do first of all check that the regulator is securely bolted to the heatsink - I came across one QL where someone had put two of the insulating washers under the regulator instead of the normal metal ones!

Would this be the same regulator that the zx spectrum uses?

Thanks rich, I believe it is. I've about 5 of these in a bag, was going to replace the regulator in my Speccy. Might replace the one on the QL.
