...10 years ago: "QL At The Falls"

In fall 2006 a North American QL show did happen in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

Here's my journey report which I wrote on October 1st 2006:
“Once I had collected enough bonus miles to take an intercontinental flight from Zürich via Frankfurt to Toronto I finally decided to join this show. I was so busy at work that the final decision to attend was made the weekend before the show. My wife said: “Do something good to you. If QL tinkering makes your mind happy, go for it.” Even the flights were booked on bonus miles for more than a month already, the car and hotel stays were booked just days before the journey. I arrived on Thursday September 28th in Toronto. The next day I drove to Niagara Falls where we all met at 6 p.m. for the traditional QL group dinner. We went to a Korean restaurant just across the street of the hotel. For me this was my first and only Korean food experience. On Saturday September 30th the QL show was held at the meeting room of the Super8 Hotel. Eleven QLers (not counting their wives and other family members) were attending. Jim showed the new QDT FileManager and an intensive discussion regarding suggested additions to it happened. Tony was busy all day to fix QLs of the North American users. I had some good chats with Colin and Herb on Memory Management. Herb and myself continued to swap experiences and files for over an hour after the show had already ended. It is definitely not enough to have a QL show every second year (not only to fix the many broken systems). On Sunday those who stayed went downtown and to the Falls. Those who stay in the Toronto area will meet for a dinner on Tuesday night.”
Like on most QL shows a group photo was shot. It pictures only seven QLers because some guys already left or they were (still) busy with QL stuff.

More pictures of the show can be seen in the QL PICTURE GALLERY (QLPG) either online on OneDrive https://onedrive.live.com/?id=C250D8748 ... 748980CE5A or in the pic section of THE DISTRIBUTION. See folder Shows\2006 Niagara Falls Canada\.

Meanwhile QDT is freeware and is part of THE DISTRIBUTION and QL/E. See links in the message footer.

To be honest... What should you do with QDT without the long promised and never launched File explorer? Making lovely pics for your programs? I start programs with Quascade, that is good enough.

I wish, I have never bought it. Money for the bin, honestly.

...25 years ago: "QL Meeting in Turin, Italy"

On today’s date 25 years ago there was the Italian QL Meeting in Turin which took place on Saturday December 1st 1991. I attended the show with my girlfriend of that time. I had a stall with my COWO Electronic business, selling my product range (QTop, ArcEd), selected 3rd party products and giving support to Italian QLers. Thanks to Antonio Gareffa there’s video footage of that show. Here’s the link to a 48 seconds video snippet out of the full 22 minutes film.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7aPGs5aGxg
Filmed and produced by Antonio Gareffa (ANT Videoproductions). Published with his permission.

The story behind this video: During this year’s Italian QL meeting (which took place on November 13th 2016) it was Davide Santachiara (Ergon Development) who reminded me of the 1991 show, where we had our stalls side by side and had great fun at and around that show. During the web-session he presented the DVD Meetings Box and passed over the email address of Antonio. After a short back and forth email-conversation in the following days, I did receive my copy of the DVD’s content. You can imagine that I had this special moment when I first watched the video and later showed the relevant scenes to my family. We all have never before seen me as a young person in a video, just on photographs. Great moments. Grazie mille Antonio!

Meanwhile QTop and ArcEd are freeware and are part of THE DISTRIBUTION and QL/E. See links in the message footer.

Hi Urs,

That meeting in Turin was rather special also personally speaking for reasons not QL related. 25 years ago... wow. I have to say that it is very difficult to think that so many years passed since then. At the end of the meeting on Nov 13th, while wrapping up the stuff, we have shown on the video-beamer Antonio Gareffa DVD of that Turin meeting. Looking at those images was rather strange I have to admit, I did not recall myself (and Marco Ternelli) so young. I have to thank Antonio for having captured those moments.

Agreed! I've been reading them for the first time over the last month or so, there is a wealth of information in there!

Fantastic! As its editor in its early days, that brought back a lot of memories :)

Being able to read them online is just great. Thank you, Urs.
