Re: P.I. Cole - noir detective game

If DIY "w" doesn't help, send me a PM. Provided I have a bit of time, I could write a simple SB extension that does what you need - I would assume you're not loading complete screen files.

No, it doesn't. No music, no hint system.
Or am I just being greedy now?
Yes, you are ;)

Background is: The music in the later games is MIDI based - easy to play on an AdLib card, but pretty hard to do on a raw DAC system.

Re: P.I. Cole - noir detective game

You can't get any faster than RLE - It is by far the fastest (and simplest) compression method. If compiled S*Basic is too slow, you'll need to revert to a faster language. However, If your picture is really only black and white, you can easily squeeze them into half the space by only storing the gr...

Re: P.I. Cole - noir detective game

I tried several ways to compress/decompress, but all are too slow for a QL without at least a Gold Card, and I would want the game to run on QL+Trump Card or a QL+vdriveQL (compiled Superbasic) Impressive! And, apparently, a juicy plot. Those b&w pictures should benefit greatly from RLE compres...

Re: The Pawn is back. And it's not alone!

The choice of graphics mode to use for the game wasn't easy at all. I wanted to conserve the charme and "look and feel" of the original as much as possible while pulling off most of what the Q68 can do. The Pawn graphics originals are max. 320x200, originally targetted (and created on) the...

Re: The Pawn is back. And it's not alone!

The Q68 Pawn with Amiga graphics :D Tobias, are you using the Aurora graphics mode? Any chance to use 16 bit high colour pictures instead? I'm using the original Atari ST graphics, which are 16 colours only (amazing, isn't it, what you can do with 16 colours?) from a pallette of 256. As the graphic...

Re: The Pawn is back. And it's not alone!

"The Pawn" for the QL was actually the first game that Magnetic Scrolls produced - it was marketed by Sinclair. When it was released for the QL (in 1985), that marked the beginning of a story of a company producing a series of high-quality adventures with superb graphics (the QL version, h...
