Re: Random hardware ideas!

A new video system. Two parts: A video card that contains RAM and a better way of reading it, resulting in a more modern signal like HDMI. A new 8301 replacement that doesn't do anything about video, removes that interrupt and just does its other tasks. So, add a video capability left-of-CPU and rem...

Re: Random hardware ideas!

I think the community has a nice way, when a new port becomes available and supported, is they look at what can be plugged into that port, find one thing that is good, cheap and fast *laughs* and standardize around that.

USB would open up a lot of options for people to.... tinker. ;)

Re: Sinclair QL JOBLOT: 127 MD's!!!

The admins have taken no action against him. I don't know why they have this rule but they have never enforced it against him or Rich at RWAP. If you really have a problem with it, talk to an admin. Outsoft is one of the good guys, working hard and spending much time to help the community. Sometimes...

That's a 16% speed difference. Impressive.

Re: Random hardware ideas!

A proper USB port. Using the FTDI FT245R 2.0 IC: http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documents/DataSheets/ICs/DS_FT245R.pdf It works well in Motorola systems, is 5V capable, provides USB 2.0 (480Mb/sec theoretical). I'll provide hardware if someone wants to develop the code to run it. The same driver co...

Re: Fun things to do with an MC68EC020....

I already started a thread for these more speculative ideas. It's not my job to police the forums, but I do like threads to stay on topic. Often people post good info on the wrong thread and it makes it so much harder to find and refer to later. For on topicness - Nasta has been even busier than usu...

Re: Announcement - new QL Interface

I'm investigating having an FTDI USB driver IC on the hobby card I'm working on. But then, I'm also looking at the Wiznet hardware stack, separately, to provide ethernet.

Re: Announcement - new QL Interface

Nice. The OS difference might really skew it since I find Minerva to often be 30-50% faster than JS. So the difference may be far more than shown by this. Minerva incorporates most of speedscreen, so screen handling is much more efficient.

Re: Announcement - new QL Interface

It will just be useful to know how much difference RAM shadowing following Nasta's plan can help a QL. I've done some experiments but following a different plan to Nasta's.

Re: Using ZX Microdrives on the QL

First check the caps, and make sure no diodes have been damaged by failed caps. Check the wiring and solder connections. 5.07V is well within tolerance. RWAP has a bunch of the ULAs and they're economical. Buy two, support his business! You don't need a jig to mount the motor. It uses countersunk sc...
