Re: Issue 8 and WiFi
Hehe. But first, write the first code to fetch and install then execute the virus.

Re: Issue 8 and WiFi
Indeed. Causes one minor problem, solves many. With the Issue 8 having internet connectivity, it would be easy for new software to do all kinds of online distribution, automatic or manual updates, have downloadable content larger than the QL could hold, do online registration. All in all, a much nic...

Re: Issue 8 and WiFi
I'll explain why I decided to not include microdrives on the Issue 8: 1. If Sinclair redesigned the QL for a version 2 any time from late 1984 onwards it would have had a 3.5" floppy instead of microdrives. 2. Anyone who has microdrives and floppies or HDs uses microdrives barely at all. 3. 33 ...

Re: Issue 8 and WiFi
The machine that has the SuperIO would have wifi and 10/100 ethernet and would not have the 8302/8049. I don't know if sernet would be supported by the hardware or not, but I don't think it would be as useful.

W83758P
It meets the PC97/98 standard, which means the code in SMSQ will run with very very little rework the 87307 which also meets the PC97/98 standard.

Re: Issue 8 and WiFi
I did find a 68681 that fits nicely on a Motorola bus and has a moderately rational design, but 3 byte FIFO, are you kidding me? How do you put an external FIFO on that thing?

Re: Issue 8 and WiFi
Has anyone ever implemented a 16550 UART and software to use it on a QL before? The two designs I saw previously for external serials used a 6402 and a 68328. If code to use the 16550 register set/layout exists already, can someone point it out to me?

Re: Issue 8 and WiFi
I don't know. I can honestly say I have no fondness for microdrives. I was actually physically bullied over them as a teenager. The other kids were playing with their shiny new 3.5" drives in 1985 when I got my first QL from Dixon's. I think it's fair to say I equate microdrives with asbestos, ...

Issue 8 and WiFi
I started writing this as a reply to the WiFi thread, but it grew into something more and needs its own thread. We've almost finished the design of the SSQB interface card, but got sidelined by working on the Issue 8, which is a rationalized QL motherboard. I have put an ESP-32S on it on the far rig...
