Re: Issue 8 and WiFi

I don't know. I can honestly say I have no fondness for microdrives. I was actually physically bullied over them as a teenager. The other kids were playing with their shiny new 3.5" drives in 1985 when I got my first QL from Dixon's. I think it's fair to say I equate microdrives with asbestos, ...

Issue 8 and WiFi

I started writing this as a reply to the WiFi thread, but it grew into something more and needs its own thread. We've almost finished the design of the SSQB interface card, but got sidelined by working on the Issue 8, which is a rationalized QL motherboard. I have put an ESP-32S on it on the far rig...

Re: WiFi232 device - usable on QL?

That is a low power but fairly low speed device. Since we're looking to retire the 8302 and 8049 in the QL we're looking at something a little more capable. One option is the 16C554 which implements four serial ports up to 1500000 plus a parallel port. It's 16550 software compatible in terms of regi...

Re: More MIA software titles

In the 80s I played a game called "sub commander" on the QL. Anyone heard of or seen that? You'd sail your sub, watching fuel, air, crew morale, and patrol this 512x256 mile patch of Atlantic ocean. Sometimes there's be ships, but usually it was just avoiding mutiny or hitting the bottom o...

Re: WiFi232 device - usable on QL?

Well, of course, but have you seen the prices and capabilities of UARTs these days? You're looking at $7+ for something 5V and with an upper limit slower than the QL with faster CPU is capable of. That statement is more about looking ahead than what is easy to do "right now." It just so ha...

Re: WiFi232 device - usable on QL?

The device is very simple to use, but interfacing it to a QL is less so. I am very willing to pair up with anyone who can design an AVR/PIC to do the parallel to serial conversion. That would change this from a "months" thing to a "weeks" thing. It needs at minimum to do 115,200 ...

Re: WiFi232 device - usable on QL?

I did some checking. The WiFi232 uses the ESP8266 module. This module is now previous generation. I hope to have something equivalent to the WiFi232 available in a while, but designed specifically for the QL and using the ESP-32S module, which has many extra features including Bluetooth and wired in...

Re: WiFi232 device - usable on QL?

I was working on this just yesterday. Things are moving quickly and we will have something for you soooOOooon! The tricky part is only that using it on existing serial is a bottleneck and the port can only supply a few mA of power, or I need to create a new serial port that is much faster. I have se...

Re: Some prototype-ish things :)

Not yet. I've been a bit busy with another development and I'm trying to move quickly to get it ready. I'll have some items ready so people can combine orders and save shipping in a few days.
