The drives Miracle used tended to have a jumper to choose between DS0 (flp1_ ) and DS1 (flp2_). The chances are that the head has been damaged on the second drive :( Although you can luckily use any modern PC floppy disk drive as flp2_ (as they are set up as DS1), the problems can be finding a drive...

Sorry but nothing went out today - was stuck waiting in for Hermes to come and collect parcel for skagon..... wonder if they'll turn up tomorrow, or if it can beat my record of waiting 10 days for them to collect!

OK, I have had a look and 1 of the input AND 1 of the output windings are Open Circuit, so I would say the transformer has gone. I am a little confused as I am not sure if this PSU is supposed to supply +5v or +12v as the # floppy drive takes both on its connector! Might lift the regulator and see ...

As I said - if you want to keep to the Genuine Miracle systems solution - I can supply you with a psu from a miracle case here....

Thanks Peter - yes I have to bow to your superior knowledge - designing and building hardware for the ZX81 and Spectrum is a lot simpler. Add to the points raised by Peter, that so far as I know, the original code for the Alteras is no longer available, and relies on some odd out of spec tolerances ...
