Re: Q40 and Q60 video controller for flatscreen monitors
Just converting it to HDMI works for me with a cheap off the shelf adaptor. But HDMI flatscreens are not more "multisync" than VGA ones, so the root problem (wrong geometry detection) remains the same. Yes, the QL resolutions and weird pixel aspect have always been a bit odd. The Pi Zero ...

Re: Q40 and Q60 video controller for flatscreen monitors
Ah... I understand now. Thanks Peter. I'll probably stick with what I have. It only affects me, for the time being. Maybe in the future, if there are forum users that would like to have a play with my software and request the full size frame buffer. Although... I'm now wondering about whether a Pi Z...

Re: Q40 and Q60 video controller for flatscreen monitors
Sorry for digging up such an old post. ***waiting for the backlash*** Having read through this entire thread, it seems that I have an issue that was not mentioned. I have tried two monitors (a old Targa Visionary and a newer Samsung Syncmaster) with have the same problem. In 512 x 256 mode, although...

Re: Q40 - RAM mapping
My question is: Where exactly is the RAM mirrored? This info has never been needed yet. For me 1997 is too long ago to answer it without significant effort. It is sufficient to do a memory presence check in 4MB steps. Great! Thanks Peter, that's all I needed to know. If it were mirrored immediately...

Re: Q40 - RAM mapping
Hi Nick, The Q40/60 can access 32Mb ram of continuous memory. The SMSQ/E operating system can use up to 64Mb ram. To access the 128Mb ram, there requires a hardware modification to the circuit board. But with this modification, there is no change to to the SMSQ/E memory access. However, under Linux...

Q40 - RAM mapping
Can anyone clarify the Q40 RAM mapping? From what I gather RAM is mapped from 0x00000000 to 0x01FFFFFF when fully populated with 32MB The question arises when 4MB SIMMs are involved. In the case of 4MB or 20MB installed, the manual says that: If 4 MB (20 MB) DRAM are installed, accesses beyond $003F...

Re: Q40 - Making ROM images into LRESPR binaries
I'm going to try Peter's solution of compiling this SOFTROM utility which would be much more convenient than messing around with floppies. No need to compile, it is ready to go. Yes, I found the softrom_rext. Not being familiar with the whole SMSQ/E thing, I didn't recognise the extension. It was o...
