Hi, try to use search bar, we have discussed this some times ago.
Re: LM7805 3A
Yes of course, there’s no problem to use it, in effect I have changed regulator into my QL with a switching one with 3.5 amps capability.
Re: VGA BOX
yes is true! see this picture: http://www.fruitcake.plus.com/Sinclair/ ... ableQL.htm
Re: VGA BOX
It’s possible because the video signals from that ULA are direct and not protected to rgb socket! If you have some experience with soldering you can attach some zener diodes to protect output pins.

Re: QL wont work
D26 is the diode that bring negative rail to -12 volt regulator ic so is it possible that you have checked the ac voltage that feed power supply; try check the c40 condensator if it has 0 and -12 volt, but in effect that voltage is needed only for rs232 ports so is not the main problem ....

Re: QL wont work
Hi, on the voltage regulator you must have 9-10 volt on right pin that is the output voltage of transformer and 5 volt on left pin to drive all chips on motherboard, also you can check pin 14 of video driver chip ( the one below modulator) where you must have 12 volt.
