Re: Installing SMSQ/E

I am pretty sure the unregistered Q-Emulator will not be able to run SMSQ/E - Simply not enough memory.

Re: TerribleFire accelerator for the QL accelerator card

Need to see what he's doing with his accelerators - something to browse through tonight, but he's using 44 pin CPLD for the 68020 accelerator - I doubt that is a full implementation of a 68020 in a CPLD that small. Transistor count for a 68020 is about 190,000+ Well, he seems to be using an 68030 (...

Re: Difference between inline and full version of BASIC constructs

I'm always a bit confused when I see inline conditionals mixed with the long form, hard to see which is which.

I would rather recommend: Split it all out into long form statements, that is much more readable and shows you what it's meant to do at a single glance.

"Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." If you want to play games, get an Xbox or whatever floats your boat.. There are actually fish that are pretty good at climbing. https://en.wikipedia.org...

Re: Difference between inline and full version of BASIC constructs

Georgeo, the long form is triggered as soon as nothing (except a single colon or a REMark) follows the condition (or the optional THEN) on the IF line: 100 IF a = 0 100 IF A = 0 THEN 100 IF a = 0 : REMark test for condition 100 IF a = 0 : all trigger a long form and expect an END IF somewhere down t...

Re: Q68 Powered Arcade Game

Slightly amending the VHDL code to make this video DMA address writable would be a very interesting feature. Even if that's tempting: I'm pretty sure that modifying the hardware and everyone having a slightly different implementation in their Q68 would not help with software availability. There's e...

Re: Fast plotting (and unplotting) sprites / Q68

The Q68 has a small area of fast ram. Maybe that could be used in some way? :) It definitely can and it definitely will help speeding up the code. But: The faster RAM only helps speeding up instruction fetch, so can definitely speed up code - sprite routines will alwas shove more memory around in s...

Re: Fast plotting (and unplotting) sprites / Q68

When faced with the problem to shove bytes/words/longwords between contiguous and non-contiguous space (what is what sprite routines do) on the 68k, the difficulty actually is not "find the fastest instructions" to do that - under ideal conditions (that is: all registers free to use, amoun...

Re: Fast plotting (and unplotting) sprites / Q68

No, there is no hardware sprite support in the Q68 (as well as in any QL compatible I know). And yes, there is software support for sprites in the extended environment, "software support", however, is a relative term. Naturally, the EE implements sprites for a WIMP, and not for a game, so ...

Re: Q68 New users and general usage thread

Hello, A question about file transfer - is it safe to mount a QXL.win file on a Q68 SD card directly in QPC, or will this cause fragmentation? If this is possible it would obviously be the ideal method of file transfer between PCs and QLs. D. Yes, it is possible and will not cause fragmentation (ne...
